It is always recommended that you take photos concerning your claim in a timely manner and at the unit before removing items. Claims submitted with photos taken of damaged items outside the unit have a higher likelihood of being denied. Below are some common claims listed with examples of what pictures should be taken:
- Theft/Vandalism
- Take pictures of the door closed with unit number in frame and close up of area verifying forced entry. Please see What does proof of forced entry mean?
- Pictures verifying damage if vandalized.
- Water leakage
- Pictures showing the source of where water entered. Pictures of the roof and top portion of walls is a good starting place.
- Pictures verifying the damage of the water to your items.
- Rodent or vermin
- Pictures verifying the damage caused by the infestation.
- Examples: dead animals, claw or chew marks, feces, etc.
- Collapse/Subsidence
- Pictures verifying damage.
- Please note that a large-scale collapse/subsidence may also require an adjuster to come and assess the damage.
- Fire
- Pictures verifying damage.
- Please note that a large-scale fire may also require an adjuster to come and assess the damage.
