What pictures should I take?

It is always recommended that you take photos concerning your claim in a timely manner and at the unit before removing items. Claims submitted with photos taken of damaged items outside the unit have a higher likelihood of being denied. Below are some common claims listed with examples of what pictures should be taken:
  1. Theft/Vandalism
    1. Take pictures of the door closed with unit number in frame and close up of area verifying forced entry. Please see What does proof of forced entry mean?
    2. Pictures verifying damage if vandalized.
  2. Water leakage
    1. Pictures showing the source of where water entered. Pictures of the roof and top portion of walls is a good starting place.
    2. Pictures verifying the damage of the water to your items.
  3. Rodent or vermin   
    1. Pictures verifying the damage caused by the infestation.
    2. Examples: dead animals, claw or chew marks, feces, etc.
  4. Collapse/Subsidence
    1. Pictures verifying damage.
    2. Please note that a large-scale collapse/subsidence may also require an adjuster to come and assess the damage.
  5. Fire
    1. Pictures verifying damage.
